Integrative Dry Needling

Modern, safe & effective

Integrative Dry Needling (IDN) is a modern, safe and highly effective form of therapy for the treatment of a wide variety of musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions, including soft tissue (tendon, ligament, fascia) pain, and nerve conditions (neuritis, neuralgia). It is a proven therapeutic modality to help treat and normalize soft tissue dysfunction, which would include: muscles, tendons, sensitized nerve tissue, and scar tissue formation (post-surgical, repetitive, or from trauma).

Self-healing and tissue repair

This form of treatment helps to restore physiological balance or homeostasis to help support biological self-healing and tissue repair. Dry needling can help to improve ranges of motion, joint biomechanics, and to reduce pain, inflammation, and to promote muscular and soft tissue healing. IDN is based on the research of Dr. Yun-Tao Ma from the Integrative Dry Needling Institute. Use of the technique is at the discretion of your provider.

How it works

Dry Needling is not acupuncture (traditional Chinese medicine is based on meridians). IDN is founded on neuro-anatomy and modern scientific study of the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems. A very fine filament needle is inserted through the skin and into deeper tissues. The proposed mechanism of action for Dry Needling is the creation of a micro lesion within the pathological tissue, breaking up shortened tissues, inhibiting muscle tension via a reflex arc from the nervous system to the tissue, inducing a mild inflammatory response and centrally mediating the pain. This mechanical and neuromuscular effect provides an environment that enhances the body’s ability to heal which ultimately reduces pain.
